HYPRO FG50FA Felling Grapple/Energy Felling Grapple
The HYPRO FG50FA felling grapple was developed for minimum hose installation, low weight and unmatched flexibility. Innovative design where the felling grapple is fed with just two hoses and is fully controlled via the ”open grapple” and ”close grapple” functions, enabling free rotation despite the cutting saw's high oil flow. The felling grapple cuts extremely effectively and can in principle be mounted on all cranes with rotators – for example, lorries, forest trailers, forwarders and excavators.
The felling grapple can be used to fell, cut, load and unload trees, branches and brushwood in forests, along roads, powerline corridors, and in park and urban environments. FG50FA is supplied as standard in the energy grapple version. It is then equipped with open grapple fingers (brush/energy wood grapple), 10cc saw motor and 59 centimetre saw bar, which can cut up to Ø50 centimetres. It can also be equipped with a special, 54 centimetre long saw bar (energy bar) to enable cutting of everything from shrubbery all the way up to large 45 centimetre cuts with more control of the chain's tension when clearing brush.
A feature of HYPRO FG50FA is its fully hydraulic construction, with auto-function for tilt and cut via the command for ”open grapple” and ”close grapple” – in other words, no additional control system is required to manoeuvre the felling grapple. A hydraulic shuttle valve changes the grapple functions from cutting to tilting after a delay. This removes the need for more valve sections for activation of cut and tilt, but nevertheless retains a high cutting effect. The delay in the change of function is adjustable to approx. 0–4 seconds. A somewhat longer delay facilitates whether the grapple shall also be used to load and unload whatever has been felled. Both cut and tilt up function are interrupted when the machine operator releases the command in the joystick. Together with the felling grapple's flexibility and hydraulic tilt joint, this makes it possible to simply access the tree's trunk or branches at the right felling angle.
The grapple's hydraulic valve section needs to be equipped with open centre (motor slide), but if this is not possible, a simple external ”return bypass kit” can be ordered together with the felling grapple. As a supplement, a cable- or radio-controlled tilt-lock can be used for full control of both load and tilt angle. Without the tilt lock, the upwardly tilted position returns to flexible floating position on completion of the cutting sequence, and then tilts downward together with the cut log.
The strength in the model lies in its proven robust construction, retaining low weight and simple connection and disconnection. Technical innovation has produced high efficiency in an easy-to use product, rapidly streamlining the work as well as enhancing ergonomics and safety for the user in the felling operation.

HYPRO FG50EC Felling Grapple/Energy Felling Grapple
The HYPRO FG50EC felling grapple was developed for minimum hose installation, low weight and full control over the felling grapple's different functions. The felling grapple is fed by two hoses where each function (grab, tilt and cutting saw) is fully controlled via the commands ”open grapple” or ”lose grapple” with electrical switching between the functions. Switching take place via cable or radio control. The felling grapple can in principle be mounted on all cranes with rotators – for example, lorries, forest trailers, forwarders and excavators.
The felling is used to fell, cut, load and unload trees, branches and brushwood in forests, along roads, powerline corridors, in parks and urban environments and in forests. The FG50EC can precisely control the tilt both up and down in locked position, but can also put the tilt in flexible floating position. In combination with full control over the cutting saw, this makes the FG50EC a highly effective cutting tool even in very tight and demanding spaces. Grapple, cut and active tilt function are interrupted when the machine operator releases the command in the joystick. Together with the felling grapple's flexibility and hydraulic tilt joint, it is possible to simply access the tree's trunk or branches at the right felling angle.
The grapple's hydraulic valve section needs to be equipped with open centre (motor slide), but if this is not possible, a simple external ”return bypass kit” can be ordered together with the felling grapple.
The felling grapple is supplied as standard in the energy grapple version and is then equipped with open grapple fingers (brush/energy wood grapple), 10cc saw motor and 59 centimetre saw bar, which can handle up to Ø50 centimetre cuts. It can also be equipped with a special, 54 centimetre saw bar (energy bar) to enable cutting of everything from shrubbery all the way up to large 45 centimetre cuts with more control of the chain's tension when clearing brush.
The strength in the model lies in its proven robust construction, retaining low weight and precision controlled functions. Technical innovation has produced high efficiency in an easy-to use product, rapidly streamlining the work as well as enhancing ergonomics and safety for the user in the felling operation.

HYPRO FG45 Felling Grapple/Energy Felling Grapple
The HYPRO FG45 felling grapple is ideal for use in the handling of both standing and felled trees. The felling grapple fells standing timber of normal height with a maximum diameter at breast height of up to 30–35 cm, and in favourable conditions has cutting capacity for trees with enlarged roots as well as stunted trees of as much as 50 cm in diameter at the cutting position, making it entirely unique in terms of function for its low weight and size.
The felling grapple can in principle be mounted on all cranes with rotators, for example on forest trailers, forwarders and excavators. It is used to fell, cut, load and unload trees and brushwood in forests, along roads, powerline corridors, in park and urban environments, but naturally also together with HYPRO's tractor processors.
FG45 is supplied as standard in an energy grapple model. It is then equipped with open grapple fingers (brush/energy wood grapple), 10cc saw motor and 59 centimetre saw bar. It can also be equipped with a special, 54 centimetre saw bar (energy bar) to enable cutting of everything from shrubbery all the way up to large, 45 centimetre cuts. The bar's design means that the chain is also tensioned along the long sides, thereby providing considerably better stability when cutting several stems simultaneously such as with brushwood or shrubs. Using an energy saw bar for this type of use considerably reduces chain jumps/throws. For hydraulic systems that do not achieve more than 60 l/min oil flow, the felling grapple can also be equipped with a smaller (5cc) cutting motor to retain high chain speed and effective cutting capacity.
The FG45 has a tilt function that automatically tilts the grapple into its felling position when it is fully open. If return is required, this is achieved by briefly activating the cutting saw, causing the grapple to return to its horizontal working position.
The crane’s valve needs to be equipped with a free section or with an additional valve for activation of the saw motor. This must be a motor slide model (open centre), which is then open directly to the tank in its neutral position, alternatively the return hose and the motor drainage hoses are installed directly to the tank.
The versatility of the felling grapple and its hydraulic tilting joint make it possible to easily access tree trunks at the right felling angle. This makes the felling operation highly rational and simple. Its low weight also makes it ideal for use on cranes with a very long reach without adversely affecting stability or lifting capacity.
